gorgeous display
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I recently purchased this computer, and am very happy with it.
The graphics card handles all of my games, like “Guild Wars,” and runs without a glitch.
The duo processors are very fast and the touch screen responds quickly as well.I have loaded all of my photo-tweaking programs, including a thousand photos. And my iTunes library as well, over 1500 songs.I have barely made a dent in the HD. I also loaded an underwater screensaver, which I got here at amazon, and the graphics are wonderful.Just like being there.
I just cannot say enough about this computer. It is beautiful, sleek, fast and the price was good.
And,yes,I am a slave to new electronics, and when I saw this computer,I had to have it. I already own HP’s newest laptop, and it is also superlative.I also admit that after I loaded the screen saver,I sat in front of the monitor slack-jawed,completely enthralled with the ability of the processors and monitor to pull off such a glorious display.
I am very happy so far,and have become a convert to HP.
BTW:I had a question about my laptop, and HP’s customer service was fast, thorough, and solved my problem.Politely.
I think this is a great computer,and I bet you will,too.

I feel like such a sucker

I’m going crazy with this machine 2 system recoveries and 2 visits to the geek sqaud, and hours on the phone with HP. I have experienced every problem that most of these reviewers talked about. Very Very UNHAPPY!

BEWARE – DONT BUY
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After 5 months our Touchsmart’s hard drive crashed. Their tech support has us going in circles, sending wrong recovery discs twice! 2.5 weeks later and it is still broken and we are waiting for a box to ship it back, which may take over two more weeks. At this point I wish I could just get my money back…such a waste of time and energy, plus loss of a lot of work. One of the worst consumer experiences ever!

Updates won’t install
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
We’ve had it for several months. Our big problem is that the HP updates at the HP site all crash with the same error when you try to install them. Spent several hours on chat with them and they finally gave up and told be to reinstall the operating system even though I explained that this was an out of the box problem and not the result of updates. Window updates install fine. So due to poor support I cannot recommend any HP computer.

Easiest Computer Ever…few complaints
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Having bought many computers over the years…mainly Dell, I decided to give this new HP a try. I really wanted something that didn’t look like a box with all sorts of wires. This doesn’t dissapoint.
Truly the next generation of computer designs, this is as close to an Apple as a PC gets so far. The black, piano finish and 22-inch widescreen is sleek and compact, yet has all the features of a true desktop unit. The screen is huge and crystal clear and the wireless keyboard matches well with it’s thin design.
Set-up on this computer was simply the easiest and fastest of any I’ve owned. I simply had to install batteries into the keyboard an mouse (supplied), plug in the main unit and attach the usb printer cord and ethernet cable from my router/modem. It all took maybe 10 minutes. On the contrary, it took 15 minutes to remove all the wires, speakers, screen and extra accessories from the old computer.
The HP has a screen pop up that automatically started downloading all the updates, so I didn’t have to go into Microsoft’s web site and search the web for assorted updates.
My only complaints are that the computer does not include recovery disks. It requires you either purchase them from HP or burn them yourself. The later is fairly simple because a wizard pops up to prompt you what to do. The only catch is that the DVD-R discs I have don’t work for this application and I have to go out and get DVD+R dual layer discs. All this is minor though considering all the good things this unit has.
Also, the DVD unit is a slot-style instead of a tray. I have found that the slot-style units can be a bit touchy sometimes, but that remains to be seen. So far so good.
Some have mentioned the touchscreen as being troublesome. I testdthis right away and it seems fine. I use a Dell touchscreen on a cash register unit at work and thisseems very close to user friendliness. This unit is still new though and I haven’t fully utilized all the functions yet.
All in all if this unit remains reliable and proves to be well built then I will be looking at more HP products in the future.

movies, work, kids and more. . .a great choice
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We have had this for six months or more and I still love it. It is super easy to use and navigate. I love how intuitive it is. Guests comment on it’s attractive outward appearance and are wowed by it’s touchscreen functionality. I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old and this may make you cringe. . . but they love to play Spore (a creative game where they make their own creatures). Having a touchscreen allows their creativity to take flight. I love to watch them take turns on the computer. I love to let them fingerpaint without the mess. I use this for work, to watch DVD’s with the family, and as a fun outlet for the family. This really has it all. Don’t buy a tv, don’t buy a computer, buy this and have it all.

Everything at your fingertips
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
After 6 months of using the Touchsmart IQ504, I have no regrets of buying it. It does have it’s pros and cons, like almost everything does, but for me the pros have far outweighed the cons.
It works well in so many places where a normal desktop just won’t fit. It has a much larger screen than a laptop which makes it great for watching movies and viewing pictures, etc. Combined with the touchscreen capability, it is also the absolute best computer for using in the kitchen while cooking (using the touchscreen for browsing the internet for recipes is a lot easier than worrying about getting flour in the keyboard!). It’s also a spacesaver if you like to have a tv in the kitchen as some models of this computer include a tv tuner and remote. Here is a useful link about using it as a family orgainizer or kitchen computer: [...]
Only big fault I have with this pc is that it’s impossible to disable the touchscreen function. Why would I want to do such a thing? With the windows open during the summer, even the smallest fruit fly buzzing around it’s glossy bright screen is enough to cause the arrow to hop around the screen clicking on whatever it flies over. If a future software update fixes this (hopefully), I will be completely satisfied with my HP Touchsmart’s performance and usefulness. I anyway love to use it and would definitely buy it again.
One other thing that makes me happy about using this computer is that it uses much less energy than the typical desktop reducing my household energy consumption. Whether for saving money or helping the environment (or both), every little bit helps.

SIMPLY AMAZING!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this TouchSmart Computer back in January 2009, and have enjoyed using it every day. The setup was very simple. The sleek design is totally awesome. The 22″ monitor is a perfect size for viewing. HP really out-did themselves on this one! I read some scary reviews complaining about problems with Windows Vista, but I haven’t experienced ANY problems. I was hesitate to buy this computer at first due to the price, and the fact that I have 2 young grandkids who loved to use my old HP computer. It is definitely worth every penny I spent! And I no longer fear allowing the grandkids to use it because it is a very heavy-duty unit. Whether I’m using it as a regular desktop computer, TouchSmart, or flat-screen TV, this computer is simply amazing! I highly recommend this product to anyone.

Love It
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have to say, that i used to build my own computers for gaming, but have since moved on to a game console and I wanted a non-cluttering cool pc. An all-in-one was my choice, and this HP is really perfect. I wanted it for two reasons, the all in one and the touch screen. Since msoft has been using this PC on their public windows 7 displays, I figured it would run windows 7 without issue, and it is multi touch, but you wont get multi touch out of it until windows 7. I dont use the HP software that comes with it, and I know some folks have had some issues, all in all its a great buy at a great price.

Excellent All-In-One – Low graphics performance
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
PROS:
I have used this computer for several months at work now. I am the IT/network support personnel for our company so my technical background is pretty good. This computer is actually well designed. The LCD is of great quality, the picture is bright with nice vivid colors. They keyboard and mouse are very comfortable to use as well, and both have a very good signal quality. The power usage of the computer itself is amazingly low. I have documented it’s power usage here: [...] You can compare it’s energy usage to other computer towers and LCD monitors.
The Touchscreen works as expected but may be a bit difficult to use to browse the web as you have to be very accurate with your finger to click on a link. When speaking of computer power, the IQ504 is able to keep up with many applications, but read below for my comments on graphics.
The built-in webcam and microphone are also excellent. I have used them in Skype and different chat programs and both have performed very well.
CONS:
The video card is a Mobile Intel 965 and many videos, and even screen savers appear choppy. This computer would be great for a family or office personnel that uses the computer for applications which do not require a powerful graphics card. The computer is well equipped for mult-tasking though. Sometimes I have up to 10 applications running at once and the speed is very good. At the moment I am using Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP2, and heavily use this computer on a daily basis.
I have also had several problems getting the DVD drive to read CDs and DVDs. Many times I will toss a CD or DVD in and it will spit it back out. I have updated the DVDs Firmware and also the BIOS and the same problem occurs. I try inserting the CD/DVD in many different ways and then it eventually works, but this can sometimes be very aggravating. The Wake on Lan feature on the Ethernet adapter (Realtek PCIe GBE) does not work. This adapter does have the feature, but there are no options to enable or disable this feature in the BIOS. After much testing I was unable to get this feature to work, so although it is advertised, it does not work on my model.
Recommendations:
If you are a gamer or plan to use heavy programs such as AutoCAD, MAYA, Adobe Premiere, etc., do not buy this computer, or try and see if they have a model with enhanced graphics. For the typical home or office user, this is an excellent space saving, green computer.
My recommendation is to try before you buy. Many stores have the TouchSmart PCs on display and you can play with them.

Not ready for prime time
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I fell in love with this platform the moment I saw it. I’ve been looking for an all in one PC with touch capability, and this thing fit the bill, or so I thought.
I bought the 506 because it had a better video card than that of the 504. We do a lot of intense video production at my job and hardware integration, so I wanted the best HP had to offer.
1.Native resolution is an oddball 1680×1050 that doesn’t support 1080p.
2.Video playback is jerky. Even DVD’s have trouble playing smoothly.
3.Does not support multi-touch(Windows 7 may solve this).
4.64 bit OS is next to impossible to get support for. I understand the need for it on this platform, but third party vendors aren’t on board yet.
The Touchsmart is a great looking piece of gear, and the idea is sound, but it’s just not going to cut it for heavy duty computing and displays.

Nearly perfect! Works well with Windows 7
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I enjoy this PC. Got it last summer after I shot a wedding (I am weekend warrior Photographer in the Indy area). The HP rep at the store where I bought this assued me it would work once the new multi-touch version of Windows came out and he was telling the truth!
Make sure you go to HP.com and update the DVD hardware bios BEFORE you do any thing else (esp before you upgrade to Win7). I had all sorts of DVD troubles early on, especially with trying to create a DVD with the included burner. The bios update fixed it. The update requires Vista and won’t work under Win 7. However the ‘fix’ carries over to Win7 and I have been able to do everything I need with the DVD now that I have updated the hardware bios.
One thing I don’t like is the fact you cannot see the hard drive light blinking since the light is on the side of the computer, not on the front. A shareware fix I have found that works well is called ‘HddLed Indicator’. Nice solution for tracking any and all internal hard drives or external drives including camera card readers.
Multi-touch works well but is limited to the included HP software to just two finger zooming in and out of the HP Touchsmart GUI menu system. And unfortunately the Windows 7 beta I am using does not include any of the cool multi-touch toys, uh I mean ‘tools’. However the Win 7 iPhone/iTouch like pen flicks work well with this computer. It is fun to finger flick back and forth between pages as I surf the web with the new version of Internet Explorer (IE8).

Perfect for this moderate user
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I read every review and watched every video available on the IQ506 before I decided to purchase. I was aware of all it’s faults and strong points and I felt confident enough to click the “Buy Now” button. When it arrived I could hardly wait to rip it from it’s cardbord home. Like everyone said, set up was a breeze. Even the most novice user should have no problem setting it up, which is simply plugging it in, and turning it on. It’s look is stunning, and very modern. It’s presence rivals that of my roommates 24inch iMac, which he desperately tried to convince me to purchase. I must say I feel I made the right decision. The touch interface is…ok. Far from perfect that for sure. When using the TouchSmart software it can be a bit sluggish, and seems to have a problem defaulting back to original settings. Again I was prepare for that so I’m not complaining. Apparently there is a software update that corrects that. I just haven’t downloaded it yet. The Touchsmart suite really does feel uncompleted, there quite a few “quirks” that need to be addressed, but for me its nothing more than a novelty for showing off. I don’t find myself using it very often. However I do like that you can use touch throughout vista and not you are not just limited to the TouchSmart suite. A couple nifty features I didn’t know about though, are the gesture features. For instance when browsing the web you can swipe your finger left or right on the screen to go to a previous webpage or to the next. The same thing can be done with mouse by holding down the right button and swiping left or right. The machine runs incredibly quiet, and takes up veyr little real estate on my desk. The monitor is incredibly bright, almost too bright for me, as I keep it near the lowest setting. The resolution is beautiful and HD wallpaers look great on the 22inch screen. Having the icluded wireless mouse and keyboard give me so much freedom, and the ability to tuck them under the base when not in use is great. I don’t do any processor intensive activities on my machine so she runs really quick. I know most of the components are laptop guts so keep that in mind before you try to play the latest 3rd person shooter. Overall I am very pleased with the machine. It has exceeded my expectations (there were quite a bit of negative reviews out there). My roommate claims he’s not impressed (blind Mac fanboy) but I catch him gazing at it and asking quite a bit of questions. My name Diginixy, and I’m a PC.

HP TouchSmart IQ816 All-in-One Desktop PC (2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 750 GB Hard Drive, Blu-ray Drive, Vista Premium) Black
Absolutely tops. Speed, power, great software, and the touch screen is very useful. Very small footprint on my desk and crystal clear bright screen.
