The men were caught up in a mission launched by international troops in Arghandab district on Saturday night.
The three key Taliban commanders, named by Afghan officials as Mullah Manan, Mullah Bilal and Mullah Shafiullah, were killed while four other Taliban fighters were injured in the operation.
Kandahar, which has sometimes been referred to as the birthplace of Taliban, has given sanctuary to the increasing Taliban-led insurgency over the past years.
